One and Two Variable Data Tables with Excel Introduction For some reason I have never used data tables but for another unknown reason I have just come to see the error of my ways ... I heartily recommend them! This page takes you through a couple of examples that I have taken from a good work book from Duke University entitled Introduction to Data Tables and Data Table Exercises: click here to download this workbook as a PDF file This page comprises screenshots from the Excel file we built when learning Data Tables together with a few explanatory words. The key to following the examples below is to make sure that you type put everything in exactly the same cells as shown here. If you are really stuck, write to me and I'll send you a copy of the Excel file that these screenshots came from. One Variable Data Table
Having sorted that out, here's another example ... for you to do!
Two Variable Data Table As you are about to read, two variable data tables are essentially the same as one variable data tables ... just a bit different.
Conclusion Data Tables are a labour saving way of setting up a spreadsheet without having to think too deeply about lots of formulae and functions. As we can see from this page, set up a model of what it is that you want to work on and then just set up a simple one or two variable data table ... you can play around with that in all sorts of ways as we have tried to show here. If this is too difficult to follow, you can get a copy of our Excel file if you wish. © Duncan Williamson |
